Hello, it’s Hana from the Czech Republic and I had a chance to be part of this beautiful journey, I mean an internship in Holland by Erasmus+. At the beginning it was so strange to me, all those new people and new places, but day by day it was getting better and better and I started enjoy being here. I have to mention that incredible schedule full of trips. That was amazing! The Keukenhof with colorful flowers, Giethoorn that looks like a fairy tail, Stedelijk and Drents Museums full of arts or just spent some time with Bart, Mieke, Hetty or others was nice. But on the other hand, there are some things, that could be changed for the next students. For example the hostel, where we lived was kind of small, I mean the room where we lived, too many beds but little place around. Also we couldn’t talk to clients in Berghorst, because they couldn’t speak english I understand why, but even the nurses couldn’t speak English that well, of course, there are exceptions like Jeanine, Annemieke and others which I don’t know their names. Maybe I expected more from living, but also in communication with clients, but I don’t want to be rude, because everything else was fantastic. The people that I met in Berghorst or members of the foundation, even people in Meppel’s Inn were so nice to us. I would say that my English gets better, I’m not afraid to talk anymore so this is such a success. I don’t think that this is my last trip in Holland, because I actually love it here, Meppel is such a calm town and I like it. At the end I need to say thank you to everyone from the foundation and the patient nurses, because you are so kind people and I am gonna miss you. We have so many memories that I will never forget and I hope you won’t too. So thank you and see you someday I hope…

I stayed in the Netherlands for almost 4 weeks. During that time a lot of happened. To start from the beginning.
Our accommodation was probably the worst thing on this stay. Owners of the hostel were nice, but the room was small and there was no storage for clothes and other items. But the cherry on top was the fungus in the walls that was later on also on my travel bag which was near the wall. I don’t want to be pessimistic so I will move on. The people from foundation from Meppel were super nice. They prepared many trips for us. We visited Zwolle, Giethoorn, Keukenhof and Assen. During those trips we have learned more about culture and history. We also have seen magnificent flat nature of the Netherlands. So the only problem was the accommodation everything else was almost perfect. The biggest challenge was the language. During our internship in the Berghorst we had trouble with communication. Residents couldn’t speak English and we expected that, but nor the nurses could speak English. Some of them tried their best to involve us and tried to talk to us. Some were speaking Dutch and pointing at things. Which was kind of disappointing.
Overall this stay was a great experience in life. People from the Meppel foundation took care of us and were genuinely concerned for our well-being. I’m glad I could be there.
